He has a point. Reality bites. When do you use English? On your job interview, talking to your profs or bosses, presenting in class or defending a report, writing your thesis, writing your excuse letters, drafting a memo, even court decisions, etc… “It is the language of the learned.” And when do you speak in Filipino? Pag nagbabayad ka sa jeep, pag nakikipagusap ka sa guard, o may iuutos sa janitor, etc… Soriano’s simply questioning why is this our reality and why proficiency in English (oral or written) is an advantage. Right?
